VDT SIGNS INTERNET CONNECTIVITY MOU WITH LASU
VDT Communications Limited, a leading broadband communications service provider is commencing the year 2022 on a high note with the signing of broadband internet connectivity MoU with Lagos State University (LASU) for the provision of Broadband internet service to the three campuses of the institution at main campus in Ojo, the Lagos State University College of Medicine (LASUCOM in Ikeja and the Epe campus of the esteemed institution.
The MoU signing ceremony held recently at LASU main campus in Ojo is aimed at modernizing and revamping the internet service access and distribution of the different campuses to facilitate seamless Staff and Students accessibility to online portal Services and e-Learning transformation.
VDT Communications is expected to bring her wealth of experience, innovation and expertise to transform and take broadband internet service provision in the institution to a soaring height. This project is expected to extensively increase visibility and rating of LASU in the global universities’ ranking,
Enhanced internet provision for the three LASU campuses will decongest the classrooms and enable academic faculties to provide lectures remotely to students, enable the students to receive lectures within the campuses without both parties having to be physically present in a traditional classroom setting. This will also support the admission process of new intake, new classes registration process of existing students as well as dynamic ICT growth of the institution to world class standard.
It will equally ensure seamless operation and facilitate online engagement of stakeholders for payment, easy access to learning materials, lecture notes, videos and other online resources. The digital world promotes transparency, accountability, smooth processing of administrative activities and communication with each of the campuses.
The Vice Chancellor, Professor Ibiyemi Tunji-Bello mni was so pleased with the development, according to her, “…our vision of becoming the best University in West Africa will be almost 70% achieved once we have the internet. I’m so happy today and it’s an amazing thing and I know that God has hand in it.” She added that the internet service will be for the members of staff (Teaching and Non – Teaching) and world class students of the University.
Responding the Group Managing Director and CEO of VDT, Engr. Biodun Omoniyi, thanked the Vice Chancellor and other members of the university’s management for believing in the company and entrusting them with the opportunity and assured the university of the capacity of VDT to deliver on the project beyond expectation thus “…our company VDT Communications Limited has been around for more than Twenty (20) years providing services. We mean well…it is just going to be the beginning of better things to come.”
Also speaking during the MoU signing event, the Acting Director, Directorate of Information, Communication, Technology (DICT) of the university, Dr. Toyin Enikuomehin, appreciated the Vice Chancellor and members of
the University Management for their effort towards making possible premium internet service provision for the institution and signing of the MoU and added as follows, ”…the need for internet services in the University cannot be overemphasized. The signing of the MoU is coming at the right time as it will broaden the scope of research, creativity and innovation of staff and students of the University…almost all the statutory services are web – based ranging from online learning, virtual public lectures, promotion and assessment evaluation forms for teaching and non – teaching members of staff are all web – based.”
Dr. Enikuomehin also stated that, “… availability of internet will give users a seamless experience on the platforms. “…in keying to the vision of the Vice Chancellor, the ICT reiterates that students operational life cycle is real time thus making service delivery fast and efficient.”
Other members of the University Management also present at the historic event include: Deputy Vice Chancellors (Academic and Administration), Prof. Elias Wahab and Prof. Adenike O. Boyo respectively, Acting Registrar, Mr. Emmanuel Fanu., Deputy Registrar, Legal Unit, Mrs. O.O Boyejo, Principal Assistant Registrar; Vice Chancellor’s Office, Dr. Lateef Shekoni, Principal Assistant Registrar/Special Assistant to the Vice Chancellor; Mr. Lateef Salami, Protocol Officer, Mr. Johnson Bamigboye, Members of staff from the Directorate of ICT and Centre for Information, Press and Public Relations (CIPPR) were also part of the event.
Other members on the VDT Communications team at the event include: Mrs. Abimbola Ikumariegbe, the COO Enterprise Sales, Vincent Olorungbeja, the Sales Specialist in charge of the Education Sector, David Ese, Senior.
