Mallam Garba Imam was educated at Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, Birmingham University, Imperial College and Ashridge Management College, all in the UK. He started his career in the civil service of Kano state
before joining Chase/Continental Merchant Bank in 1984, CMB Homes Limited, Visa Investment and Securities Limited and Africa International Bank Limited. He served on the board of NAL Bank as non-executive director before joining the executive team. He was an Executive Director of Sterling bank Plc before he retired in 2011.
He was a member of the Technical Committee of the National Council on Privatization at the Presidency, a Fellow of Charted Management Institute (UK) and a Fellow, Institute of Credit Administrations of Nigeria. He currently serves on the board of various companies including Enterprise Bank Ltd and Nigeria Stockbrokers Limited.
