International Women’s Day – #EqualforEqual

This year’s International Women’s Day falls on the 8th of March and VDT is joining the rest of the world in celebrating this cause.

The theme for the year is, ‘I am Generation Equality: Realizing Women’s Rights which is aligned with UN Women’s new multigenerational campaign of Generation Equality.

We asked a few women in VDT what Gender Equality means to them and this is what they had to say:

“Gender equality to me means equal opportunities without hesitation or complications” – Evi Evru

“It means confidence and boldness to fit in the future without being scared of the unknown” – Sarah Ehigie

“This is literally empowering women to know their rights to access everything entitled to them. Not being intimidated by the society” – Felicia. Ayoola

“A nation can progress and attain higher developmental growth only when both men and women are given equal opportunities. We have less women in politics and positions of authority. We want to be heard everywhere so that our talents can be known” – Abiodun Omolayo

This is having equal access to education, economic decision making which will benefit humanity at large” – Sarah Mazoya

“Proper value should be given to women’s work” – Bolanle Agbaje
